July Open Canopy - 1st Saturday Artist Studio Tour
OPEN CANOPY, a monthly first Saturday artist studio tour in the Canopy east austin arts community. 1-4pm 916 Springdale Rd.
Getting Started with Watercolor at CRAFT
We'll try basic watercolor techniques including wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry, and practice how to hold and control the brush for different strokes. We will practice painting simple shapes using everything we've learned, to gain a deeper understanding of water color and then it's time to put it all together to create a minimalist painting using one or two colors, focusing on balance and form.

Jane Reichle's Mermaid Cowgirl at Yard Dog Gallery
Join us for the opening reception Jane Reichle’s Mermaid Cowgirl at Yard Dog Gallery. The opening is on March 1st, during Canopy’s monthly artist studio tour from 1-4pm. Canopy’s studio tour is a great time to visit - tour artist studios for a behind-the-scenes peek at local artist’s processes, explore independent galleries, and enjoy free drinks and live music every first Saturday. This exhibit will be on view until March 29th - or view online at the link below.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jane Reichle (b. 1998, Bryan, TX) is a self-taught embroidery and textile artist based in Austin, Texas. In 2022, Reichle exploded onto the scene and made waves in the industry after a series of sold-out gallery exhibitions and a prominent feature in Texas Monthly. Each of her pieces is a one-of-a-kind gem. She tells a resonant story— her concepts and narratives are then transferred onto fabric through the intricate art of hand-stitching. Reichle’s delicate handwork is imbued with a sense of heartfelt reflection and originality.
Reichle draws inspiration from an eclectic blend of sources, including the legendary Nudie Cohen and the bespoke western wear fashion scene. Furthermore, she delves into the world of old-school American tattoos for additional inspiration and counts her eccentric Austin-based friends as a wellspring of creative energy. She explores time and memory in her work, creating a nostalgic yet contemporary reflection of Texan life. Her embroidery is a testament to her integrity, attention to detail, and the love she pours into each piece.
Contours of Connection at ICOSA Collective
Contours of Connection
by Mai Gutierrez and
Amanda Linn McInerney at ICOSA Collective
Exhibition Dates: February 28th - March 29th
Artist Reception: Friday, February 28th 7-10 pm
More information from ICOSA Collective:
“ICOSA Collective presents Contours of Connection, a multidisciplinary exploration of unity, inspired by the landscapes, architecture, and history of the Puglia region in southern Italy. Drawing from Gestalt theory—the idea that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts—artists Mai Gutierrez and Amanda Linn McInerney weave together sculptures, prints, and video to examine how distinct elements interact to create cohesive forms.
Gutierrez’s sculptures are inspired by the iconic trulli of Alberobello, whose dry-stone architecture embodies resilience and simplicity, as well as the southern constellation the Pleiades, which have long guided seasonal observations in the region. These forms draw upon Puglia's abundant limestone and ancient stone maps, intertwining necessity, creativity, and celestial symbolism into timeless expressions.
McInerney's encaustic serigraphs evoke the dreamy feel of the rhythmic movement of the water captured from the Salento coasts. Printed on acrylic, these screen prints reflect the Adriatic and Ionian seas’ colors and clarity, and play with depth to invoke the feeling of the shifting yet calm currents. These works capture the fluidity and balance of the natural world, echoing the sea’s moderating presence in the landscape.”
